How to use seasonal sale to improve sale.

Today, we are talking about one of the most important things for both sellers and buyers in the world of e-commerce. Yes, we are talking about seasonal sales. These are the times during the year where the big companies like Amazon and Flipkart offer absolutely huge discounts in order to encourage the users to buy and spend more money. This is so prevalent that even the consumers have been trained. Does it ever happen to you that you were planning to buy a new phone or a laptop but it was a tad bit over the budget? We all wait for the sale during Holi, Diwali, and New Year to buy that new phone or a laptop. This drop in prices can range from 10% to 50%, depending on the product and the company but this is what usually happens.

I am sure that you also want a piece of that sweet profit from those sales, worry not! today we will discuss how you can also earn from the seasonal sales.

Sales boost.

Let’s start with the most obvious when the prices drop by 30 to 40% you all know that the customers are going to go crazy. This is the perfect time to get a maximum amount of traffic and then also convert that traffic into customers. According to a report last year the revenue during cyber Monday was 6.59 billion which was huge for a single day. Before you slap a 50% discount on your products you should know these things:

Inventory

You should keep your highest selling product in stock because you know they are going to sell like hotcakes and you don’t want run out of stock on the day when you will be able to sell the most amount of products. If you do this, then you are setting yourself for a missed opportunity. However, when I say keep up the stock ! It means having a sufficient amount of inventory which you know will slip away most easily. This also means not to overstock your products during seasonal sales as once the sale is done you will be left with excess stock which will be a burden for you. Calculate and be thoughtful about the amount of inventory you would like to go for. Make sure that you avoid this situation.

Logistics

This is somewhat related to the previous point. Most of the sellers do not have their own products and they rely on the manufacturer for their products. Thus, if you are planning to go on sale then you should always inform your manufacturer in advance about your plans because production and then shipping them to you will take a considerable amount of time. You don’t want to be waiting for your product to arrive while your competitor is acing the sales.

Workforce

At this point, you already know that you will be receiving a huge boost in traffic and so, informing your staff regarding your strategy is crucial. Usually sales are up during the holiday season and you don’t want to be understaffed. The staff should be well trained for efficient problem-solving skills. This will avoid any delays in the entire process and also your customer satisfaction will increase.

Now that we have covered our first point let’s move on to the next point.

Get rid of less selling products.

Tell me one thing: what would you have on the most selling day? A product that doesn’t sell or a product that sells extremely well. The answer to that question is very simple. It does not make sense to have less selling products in your inventory. Most of the sellers stock good selling products but they don’t remove the less selling product. By doing so you can have more space to stock up good selling products and thus have more potential to increase your sales.

Consumers are not dumb.

There are a lot of sellers who think that they can fool the customers, but if you are also thinking of trying the same thing please don’t. Customers are a lot smarter and aware now. Gone are the days when you can just increase the base price of the product and then discount it back to its original price. This method used to work during the first few years but consumers have outgrown this strategy. This is why you should not try any false marketing techniques as it will not only hurt you during the sale but it will continue to cause damage long after as people will no longer believe that you will provide them with the fare price.

Combine this with a lot of options for the consumer to choose from it becomes very clear that you are not giving any actual discount and it’s all just a trick.

Stock the right product based on your location.

Not all holidays are celebrated in all of the regions and you should be very aware of the holidays which are celebrated in your location. If you have the right product during the right holiday you will be able to make a huge amount of profit. Let’s understand it with an example. Let’s say you are based in India and it’s almost Diwali time. If you do not have lights for decoration and crackers then you will miss out on an opportunity to make a sale. This is a very basic and broad example but this explains my point clearly. There are some festivals that are more prominent in a certain part of the world than other festivals and you should keep a product that aligns with those festivals to get maximum sales.

Raising brand awareness.

Due to the respective nature of these seasonal sales customers are now aware of when to expect the sale and what kind of discount to expect. Both of these things combine to make a killer combination. During this time people look to shop for products which they can’t afford during the rest of the year. Taking an active part in these sales makes you appear in more search results along with the home pages of big websites like amazon and this will give a huge boost for which you have to spend a lot of money in advertising on Amazon. These sales also invite people who are non-regular shoppers online. If you can give them a good experience then there is a strong probability that when they shop next time they would trust your brand over another because of the good experience that you have provided.

Now imagine combining this with a little outside help of Facebook and Google ads, combining this is like creating holy trinity. You would be at a huge advantage compared to sellers who only use amazon.
